Old Potato Road.

i created a simple blog to keep track of the odd happenings in this unconventional life of mine. Old Potato Road is my favorite road in between Austin and my hometown of Bryan, Texas. at a point in my life when i was figuring out what the hell i was going to do and who the hell i wanted to be i'd pass Old Potato Road and laugh out loud. it reminds me to honor and seek those simple moments that give breath to our crazy lives.

even today, when i drive by after my mom, dad or courtney has graciously scooped me up from the austin airport i anticipate passing Old Potato Road. it reminds me of finding joy in the simple moments of our lives. the sort of simple joy that creates reprieve from the dust of everyday life we sometimes can't shake.

i offer no wisdom. just sharing my life. things that make me laugh. things that make me cry. things that make me, well, me.
FOLEY’S RED APPLE SALE.

When you did something in Cheerleading that was a bit against the rules you’d receive a demerit.  Things like forgetting your bloomers, chewing gum whilst shouting school spirit, making out in public.  You get the picture.  In order to stay in good standing you could work off these demerits with community service and after school projects.

Even though I had to work off these damn demerits which I am sure were honorably earned, I chose the routes that I thought were funny to me.  One option provided to us spirited hooligans was to go to Foley’s, the local department store at Post Oak Mall, and walk around doing chants during their big Foley’s Red Apple Sale.

I rallied all my faves and we hit the mall.  After a quick stop by Claire’s to get some cubic zirconia and headbands, we head on down to Foley’s and meet with the manager.  He gives us the lay of the land and lets us loose.  Being my creative self I come up with a few chants we can do to pump up the shoppers and get those sales threw the roof.

So we start walking and doing the chant I quickly pieced together.  ”You want to shop at Dillard’s, at Dillard’s, at Dillard’s.  You want to shop at Dillard’s? EWWW, Go to Foley’s!!”  This was repeated over and over until the manager thwarted our discounted spirit and asked that we not mention other department stores.

After quick deliberation we realized he was right and changed direction.  ”If you want to look pretty, look pretty, look pretty.  If you want to look pretty, get some make up!”

Funny enough, I got demerits for this.  So my attempts at good standing failed.  My attempts at a good laugh, success.  I consider that win.  Go team go!
